Parkinson’s Foundation

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra.

Symptoms generally develop slowly over years. The progression of symptoms is often a bit different from one person to another due to the diversity of the disease. People with PD may experience:

  • Tremors, mainly at rest.
  • Bradykinesia
  • Limb rigidity
  • Gait and balance problems

The cause remains largely unknown and there is no cure just yet.

However, con-contact boxing training has been proven to reverse, reduce and even delay the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease.

At IMPACT ZONE, we offer boxing classes for those who suffer from Parkinson’s.

We have only elite lifelong martial artist and fitness experts that institute specifically designed programs to combat the effects of this disease. Here we have Christina who is 34 years of age with early onset Parkinson’s with the head of our boxing program Shihan Brian Long 9th degree marital art expert.

Also training with Shihan Brian Long is Phil, a 78 year old IMPACT ZONE member with Parkinson’s.
